Helen's Woods I

These-boulders were left from the excavation for the foundation of Helen's home. The builder was about to remove them when Helen stopped him because she liked them. I find it fun to paint them with all their planes. 28x24 o/c (2003) (artist's collection)

Fourth Revision

When-you-look at a painting you only see the top coat of paint. At various times this painting had a road going up the center, two barns and a blue sky. 24x28 oil on linen (Aug 2006) Posted by Picasa

In the Style of Wolf Kahn

This-painting-owes a lot to Wolf Kahn. He often uses barns as motifs and frequently paints large horizontal blocks of color representing forest. And of course he uses great, often intense color. This is more stylized that his typical painting. 26x30 oil on linen (July 2006) Posted by Picasa

Saving Another Failure

This-was-done in class about 8 years ago. We were required to paint 20 versions of the same model on a large canvas. It was nothing I wanted to keep so I started slathering yellow ochre over it when I got it home and I then noticed that I could save two of the figures and make an interesting painting. 39x53 (the largest that I could transport to class in my Camry) acrylic on canvas (about 1998)

Neskowin Rainy Day o/c (2003)

This-was-painted on a rainy day under an umbrella. As it happens there was a truck in the foreground and two homes right behind trees and foliage on the trees but I decided to try to capture only the tree branches and the rainy atmosphere. (artist's collection)
